1. A new pet(一个新宠物)

Alma and her mother were walking home when a small dog began following them.

阿尔玛和她妈妈正往家走，一只小狗开始跟着他们。

There was a note tied to the dog's collar.

狗的项圈上系着一张纸条。

Alma read the note. It said, "My name is Lady. My owner cannot keep me. May I be your pet?"

阿尔玛看了看纸条。上面写着，“我叫蕾蒂。我的主人不能养我了。我可以成为你的宠物吗?”

Alma showed the note to her mother.

阿尔玛把纸条给妈妈看。

“May I keep the dog?” she asked.

The puppy looked like a nice dog.

Mother said that they could keep it.

妈妈说他们可以养这只狗。

Alma and Lady were happy.

阿尔玛和蕾蒂都很开心。

Alma had a new pet, and Lady had a new home.

2. A Clever Farmer(聪明的农民)

Uncle Sam doesn’t like farmer. He thinks they are very foolish and only know work on the farm.

山姆大叔不喜欢农民。他认为他们很愚蠢只会在农场干活。

One winter morning, the sun is shining. Uncle Sam sits on the step of his house. At that moment, a farmer with a map in his hand comes to him.

3. The Monkey and the Fishermen（猴子和渔夫）

Once upon a time, there lived a monkey in the woods. 

从前，树林里有一只猴子。

The monkey climbed up the tree and looked down at the river everyday.

每天猴子都会爬上树看下面的小河。

One day, the monkey saw fishermen throw a net over the river. 

一天，猴子看见渔夫在河上扔了一个网。

He watched how the fishermen caught fish.

Sometime after, the fishermen left the net and went to have lunch.

过了一会后，渔民把网放下后吃午饭去了。

 Then, the monkey climbed down from the tree and went to the riverside. The monkey was planning to throw the net like the fishermen did.

然后，猴子迅速从树上爬下来跑到河边。猴子模仿渔民的样子撒网。

The monkey was confident since he was good at imitating. 

猴子很自信，因为他擅长模仿。

Yet, the net wound around the monkey when he touched it. 

但是当猴子抓网的时候网口正好冲着它。

Tied up in the net, the monkey fell into the water.

于是猴子紧紧地抓着网，掉进了水里。

The monkey regretted his behavior, but it was too late.

猴子对自己的行为感到很后悔，但为时已晚。

"I should have learned how to use the net before touching it. After believing my prowess and showing off, I am in a bad fix." 

“我应该学会撒网后再碰网的。过于相信自己的能力，才落得如此下场。”

The monkey who did not behave carefully drowned in the water.

最后猴子被淹死了。

4. Fox and cock（狐狸和公鸡）

One morning a fox sees a cock.He think,"This is my breakfast.''

一天早上，一只狐狸看到了一侄?耀鸡。他想：这是我的早餐。

He comes up to the cock and says,"I know you can sing very well.Can you sing for me?''

The fox sees that and caches him in his mouth and carries him away.

 The people in the field see the fox.

 在田地里的人们看到了狐狸。

They cry,"Look,look!The fox is carrying the cock away.''The cock says to the fox,"

大喊大叫：“看，看！狐狸抓住公鸡逃走了。”

Mr Fox,do you understand?The people say you are carrying their cock away.Tell them it is yours.Not theirs.''

公鸡对狐狸说：“狐狸先生，你能理解么？人们认为你叼走了公鸡。告诉他们这是你的，不是他们的。”

 The fox opens his mouth ang says,"The cock is mine,not yours.''

 狐狸张开她的嘴说：“公鸡是我的，不是你们的。”

Just then the cock runs away from the fox and flies into the tree.
